2016 Scholarship Recipient

Kayla LaRosa is the 2016 recipient of the Sandra Biloon Memorial Scholarship.  Kayla is the daughter of Maria LaRosa who works at the Department of Labor.

 Kayla graduated from Newington High School in June.  Kayla achieved honors status all four years of high school with a rigorous schedule of honors and AP courses.  Kayla is a member of the English National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and the Italian National Honor Society. Kayla will be attending Roger Williams University in Rhode Island in the fall where she will pursue a degree in Legal studies and a minor in Psychology.

 Kayla has distinguished herself not only as an excellent student, but has been a vital part of her school’s sports program where she has been on the varsity soccer team for all four years.  In addition to her activities, Kayla shares a passion for children and volunteers as an assistant soccer coach where she teaches young kids the fundamentals of the sport.  She also participates in the Unified Sports Program where she helps teens and young adults with special needs play sports.  For the past five years, Kayla has volunteered in a program called Rebuilding Together.  This program helps to transform the lives of low-income homeowners by improving the safety and health of their homes and revitalizing their communities.  She also finds time to work at a nearby restaurant.

 Kayla was presented with this scholarship award at the June 3rd end of year program held at Central Connecticut State University.
